This 6 inch 5Km bimetallic pipeline (lining: stainless steel with 3mm wall thickness, substrate: carbon steel with 6mm wall thickness) have operated since 2011. Because this pipeline’s lining is stainless steel, which is nonferromagnetic material, leading a result of “unpiggable” for MFL, and it never has been inspected since 2011.

PIGPROX follows the principle of electromagnetic induction, we verified the effectiveness and feasibility of eddy current ILI solution for this line by multiple pull tests of same condition line for the practice test in our workshop successfully. And finally, we run the PIGPROX ILI tool in one time successfully and the data outcome was quite good: Signal was clear and the signal to noise ratio was high.

Totally 160 metal losses were detected and the deepest defect was 12.22%wt. The client verified successfully by X-ray. This was a piolet project of ILI since PIGPROX solved the “Unpiggable” problem for the client and detected its internal corrosion information: From that day, this 6’’ bimetallic pipeline became “Piggable”.
