Background

The client oversees a pipeline with a total length of 29Km. The current pipeline pigging cleaning operation employs a disc cleaning pig. Deyuan Pipeline Technology Co., Ltd. Utilizes PIGPROX Intelligent Pig Tracking Tools based on sound conduction to monitor the operation status of the cleaning pig and ILI tool, analyze the operation during the cleaning process, and compare the data with the underground fiber optic vibration detection pig tracking system. For this pig tracking operation, two methods, namely PIGPROX intelligent tracking and underground fiber optic vibration pig tracking, were employed to track the cleaning pig. Both methods mutually validate the operational status of the cleaning pig within the pipeline. Tracking positions were established at the same locations using both methods to report the passage time and operational conditions of the pig. Manual tracking was conducted on-site to verify the results. After the cleaning operation, the passage times obtained from both methods were compared.

Pig Tracking Process

After the cleaning pig launched, the pig passage signal was clearly, the on-site personnel's manual tracking of the pig passing time aligned with the time reported by the PIGPROX Intelligent Tracking Tools.

Outcomes

The PIGPROX Intelligent Pig Tracking Tool tracked the cleaning pig passage time accurately at all tracking positions which aligned he on-site personnel's manual tracking. Compared with the optic vibration detection pig tracking system, the reported pig passage time error was 3 seconds on average.
